Celtics hire Butler coach Stevens to succeed Doc Rivers

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- The Boston Celtics have hired Brad Stevens to succeed former head coach Doc Rivers.

Stevens will become the Celtics' 17th head coach.

The team announced the signing on Twitter Wednesday, but did not release details of the deal.

Stevens, age 36, has spent the past six years as the head coach at Butler University. During his six years with the team, he never won less than 22 games and lead the Bulldogs to two national championships.

Doc Rivers became head coach of the Los Angeles Clippers last week after being released by the Celtics.
