CDC announces 86 Atlanta workers may have been exposed to Anthrax

(MyFoxBoston.com) -- The Centers for Disease Control announced Friday that 86 of their lab workers may have been exposed to Anthrax. That number is up from the 75 announced Thursday night.

The incident happened last Friday at a high level biosecurity lab in Atlanta. Researchers there apparently failed to follow proper procedures to de-activate samples of the bacteria. Those samples were then transferred to a CDC lab not equipped to handle live Anthrax.

Officials say so far, no employees have shown symptoms of illness.

The CDC is investigating how the exposure happened, and says they will take disciplinary action if warranted.
