Carver men arraigned for construction, landscaping thefts totaling $150K

BROCKTON, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – Two Carver men have been arraigned in connection with stealing construction and landscaping equipment totaling more than $150,000 from Massachusetts and neighboring states.

Robert Amado, 42, was arraigned on charges of larceny over $250 (10 counts) and witness intimidation (two counts). At the arraignment, Amado pleaded not guilty and was released on $50,000 cash bail on the condition he stay away from victims involved in the witness intimidation charges.

Christopher Bromley, 31, was also arraigned on charges of larceny over $250 (eight counts). Bromley pleaded not guilty and was released on $5,000 cash bail.

An investigation into the alleged thefts began in November 2012. Authorities concluded Amado went out regularly at night, frequently with help from Bromley, and stole various pieces of equipment. The stolen equipment, which includes snowplows, excavators, and tractors, was taken from multiple locations, including Hopedale, Harwich, and Woburn in Mass.; Clifton Park, New York; East Hartford, Conn; Berwick, Maine; and Hollis, N.H., authorities said.

The investigation also revealed Amado would allegedly travel to the same location twice, indicating he would stake out a location prior to stealing equipment.

The equipment was reported stolen by business or property owners shortly after authorities allege Amado traveled to those locations.

Additionally, when Amado allegedly became aware that authorities interviewed two witnesses in connection with their investigation, he threatened them and instructed them not to speak to authorities.

Both Amado and Bromley are due back in court for a pre-trial conference Oct. 2.
