Carjacking leaves elderly man injured

SAUGUS, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Police are looking to speak with witnesses of a carjacking that left an elderly man injured in a supermarket parking lot Tuesday morning.

Just after 8 a,m., police responded to the Stop & Shop on Main Street where a 90-year-old Saugus man had been grocery shopping. While returning to his car, he was attacked and officers found him bleeding on the sidewalk.

The suspect, described as a white man about 5-feet, 7-inches tall with dark hair wearing long pants, stole the victim's 2001 brown Ford Focus. The car had a Massachusetts license plate, 868NHV. The victim declined to be taken to a hospital and instead an officer drove him to a relative's house.

Officers found the stolen Ford Focus early Wednesday morning across the street from the Melrose DPW yard.

Saugus police are checking surveillance video in the area and ask that anyone who saw the incident or may have seen the car to call the Saugus Police Department at 781-941-1199.
