Car skids down hill, kills woman in Mission Hill

BOSTON — A car skidded into a pedestrian, killing her in the Hillside area of Mission Hill Saturday evening.

FOX25 has learned the victim's name: 22-year-old Jessica Cosman of North Grafton. Sources say Cosman had been walking with two men back from the grocery store when the crash happened around 5:45 p.m.

The car slid down the steep, snowy hill, skidding onto the sidewalk and hitting Cosman near Sunset and Hillside streets. Cosman died at the scene.

"I heard a crash and then I heard screaming," Katy Boyd, who lives in an apartment nearby the crash, told FOX25. Boyd said the driver of the car yelled for help.

Police say the driver was a 20-year-old from Jamaica Plain who is cooperating with police.

Other neighbors say they've had issues sliding in their cars on the same road.

"Earlier in the day, I had my emergency brake on...slamming on the brakes, I just slid right down the hill, also," said neighbor Trevor Hennigan.

As the investigation continues, the Mission Hill neighborhood feels for the family grieving.

"I can't imagine your kid goes to college and getting the call you'll never see your kid again. It's crazy," Hennigan said.

Cosman's employer, Relay Therapeutics, remembered Cosman as "talented and dedicated" and said they were "stunned and devastated by her loss."
