Driver dead, passenger injured after crashing onto Quincy beach

QUINCY, Mass. — One man is dead and another person is injured after a car crashed onto the beach at Caddy Park on Quincy Shore Drive Monday night.

Massachusetts State Police told Boston 25 News a trooper had pulled over the driver for an unspecified reason, but the driver accelerated and fled at a high rate of speed.

The trooper did not pursue the vehicle, state police said, but did follow in the same direction and discovered the crash a short time later.

The driver apparently sideswiped one car and crashed into another before rolling over the sea wall.

The driver of the car, an adult male, was pronounced dead at the scene. A female passenger was ejected and taken to Boston Medical Center, police said.

The driver of one of the vehicles that was hit was also taken to a Boston hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

State Police were expected to spend several hours on the scene investigating and eventually removing the vehicle from the beach.

Quincy Shore Drive was closed between Fenno Street and Furnace Brook Parkway during the investigation.
