WAREHAM, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A 44-year-old Wareham woman is accused of scamming a charity out of six trash bags full of Christmas gifts.
Wareham police accuse Kimberly Lawson of falsely obtaining the gifts from the St. Vincent de Paul Conference last week.
"They were to be given to her small children, well, it turns out she didn't have small children, her children are actually in their 20s," said Interim Wareham Police Chief Kevin Walsh.
It appears Lawson was not in need at all. Police claim they caught her trying to sell the donated gifts at an apartment complex in East Wareham. She is charged with receiving stolen property.
FOX 25 spoke to one of Lawson's neighbors. He says he is stunned to hear she was arrested, describing her as a quiet mother who keeps to herself.
Lawson's fate now rests in the hands of the judicial system, but the presents are back in the hands of those who need them most. Wareham police say the gifts have been returned and will go to those in need.
