Court documents: Bus driver accused of OUI had .157 BAC

The Dudley school bus driver who allegedly was drunk while driving a bus full of kids was released Friday after being fit with a GPS monitoring device.

Police said Scott Poirier, 42, of Dudley, was drunk when he backed up and hit a utility pole after missing a stop. When police arrived on scene, Poirier was coming of the bus when he slipped and fell. They said he appeared drunk.  He's charged with an OUI, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and child endangerment.

"He had said drank NyQuil and DayQuil earlier in the day," the prosecutor said in court.

In court Friday, the results of his breathalyzer were released and Poirier's blood-alcohol level was .157, according to court documents.

The legal limit for driving is .08 and the legal limit for a bus driver is .04. For a 200 pound man, it takes about eight drinks to reach a .15 BAC. At that point, there is gross motor impairment, blurred vision and a major loss of balance. Drinkers are drowsy and suffer a loss of critical judgment.

None of the children were injured during the crash. The Superintendent Gregg J. Desto said Poirier is employed by First Student, the company the district contracts with for bus services. First Student has zero tolerance for OUIs and the incident is under full review and appropriate disciplinary action will be decided.

A new driver has been assigned to the bus Poirier was driving.

FOX25 looked at Poirier's driving record and he did not have any major issues.
