Burbine offering to be castrated in exchange for lighter sentence

WAKEFIELD, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- John Burbine, the Wakefield man charged with sexually abusing children, some just days old, is offering to be castrated in exchange for a lighter sentence.

Burbine was arrested last year and charged with sexually abusing 14 children, including an eight day old infant. He was providing child care when he allegedly committed the crimes.

If convicted, Burbine is potentially facing up to life in prison and will only agree to the castration if the judge will consider sentencing him to 15 years. Burbine's attorney argued that the castration will reduce or stop sexual urges and sexual function, and asked the court for money so his client can talk to a therapist about the procedure.

A hearing will be held Wednesday in Superior Court in Woburn.
