BOSTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) Boston University Police are asking students to take extra precautions after several robberies that occurred on or near the Charles River Campus Friday night and early Saturday morning.
The first incident happened in an alley next to the Shaw's Supermarket at 11:30 p.m. on Friday. A male student was approached by two men who assaulted him before stealing his cell phone. Police identify the first suspect in this robbery as a white man, between 5'6" and 5'8" tall, wearing a dark North Face jacket. The second suspect, who the victim describes as a muscular Asian man, reportedly assaulted the student before stealing his phone. The student sustained minor injuries in the robbery and assault.
Less than an hour after the first robbery, a female BU student and two friends were robbed at gunpoint by two men. Investigators say the armed robbery occurred just after 12 a.m. Saturday in the area of St. Paul and Thatcher streets in Brookline.
The suspects in the second incident stole a bag containing an iPhone and keys. One suspect is described as a white man with a large nose, approximately 6'2" tall, wearing a white hoodie and a black jacket. The second suspect is also described as a white man with a thick build, between 5'10" and 6' tall, wearing a black jacket and a scarf over his face.
A third robbery occurred at 275 Babcock Street just before 1:30 a.m. A female student was sitting on the steps outside when she was approached by a black man and a black woman. Investigators say the student was pushed to the ground and the suspects opened her purse, taking her cell phone and some money. The suspects left the scene in a white, older model sedan.
Boston University and Brookline Police say they are adding more patrols to the area as a result of the robberies. They also ask all students to take extra precautions that include avoiding poorly lit areas, getting a ride instead of walking at night, staying with large groups if walking is the only option, and refraining from wearing headphones or talking on cell phones.
