SMITHFIELD, R.I. (AP) - A Bryant University freshman died Thursday after the vehicle he was in struck a tree on the Smithfield campus.
Police say it happened around 1 a.m. He was taken by helicopter to Rhode Island Hospital but died of his injuries.
Four other freshmen in the car were taken to Rhode Island Hospital. They were treated and released.
The university did not immediately confirm the victim's name and did not say whether he was driving.
Police say the crash is being investigated.
