BROOKLINE, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A teacher at a private school in Brookline was charged with indecent assault and battery of a child under the age of 14 on Monday, according to an article from the Boston Globe.
Gregory Grote a Latin teacher and the head of the Latin department at the Park School, was arraigned and pleaded not guilty Monday in Brookline District Court to three counts of indecent assault and battery and one count of assault and battery.
Grote, 65, was released on $1,000 bail, and placed on unpaid leave indefinitely at the school, which is a private school for children from pre-kindergarten through ninth grade.
The school released the following statement Tuesday:
We were notified Sunday of the arrest of Greg Grote, a longtime teacher at The Park School. Upon learning of these troubling allegations, the school placed Mr. Grote on indefinite unpaid administrative leave.
We have no details beyond those which were related at his arraignment. We will assist the authorities investigating this matter in any way that we can.
We can confirm the following: Mr. Grote has been a teacher at The Park School since 1987. The school performs criminal and sex offender background checks on all new hires and, as a matter of routine, performs background checks on faculty and staff who are in our employ. Mr. Grote's background check is current, and without any indication of criminal conduct, as of spring 2013.
We encourage anyone in our community with any knowledge or concern to contact us and the appropriate authorities.
Given that this is an active investigation, the school will not make any further public statements at this time.
