BROCKTON, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Brockton police found a baseball hat they believe could be connected to the murder of 74-year-old Lee Harmon.
Investigators released an image of a Red Sox hat found near the Clinton Street crime scene on the same day they released Harmon's cause of death. Harmon died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head. The injuries are consistent with a hammer found at the scene. His official cause of death has been ruled homicide.
The Plymouth County District Attorney's office released a detailed description of the suspect in the murder Thursday. Police are looking for a light-skinned, English speaking Hispanic or Cape Verdean man, between 16 and 26 years old, standing between 5'10" and 6' tall, with a thin or athletic build. The suspect was clean shaven with black hair worn in a pony tail. At the time of the attack, investigators believe he was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, possibly with a white t-shirt underneath, light colored shorts, and black sneakers.
Brockton police responded to Clinton Street at about 8:45 p.m. Tuesday to find Harmon, a pastor who collected cans as a hobby and would often give the money to the homeless, suffering massive head wounds and a gash to his lower right arm. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Anyone with information about the man described or the baseball hat recovered from the scene is asked to call Brockton police at 508-941-0234.
