Brockton man gets up to 50 years for raping girl

BROCKTON, Mass. (AP) - A Brockton man has been sentenced to up to 50 years in prison after pleading guilty to 299 charges, including 271 charges of child rape, for repeatedly abusing a girl when she was from 11 to 14-years-old.

Terry Jackson pleaded guilty Monday just before his trial was scheduled to start.

Prosecutors say the 56-year-old Jackson pulled a sheet over the victim's head and raped her on a nearly daily basis, even videotaping and taking photographs of the assaults.

The Enterprise reports that Jackson was first arraigned on the charges in April, after the victim, who was known to him, told her mother.

Jackson's attorney, Scott Bradley, says his client chose to "sacrifice the rest of his life" rather than put the girl through the trauma of trial.
