Brockton man charged with murder for beating death of pastor

BROCKTON, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – A Brockton man has been arrested in connection with the beating death of 74-year-old Lee Harmon.

Police obtained an arrest warrant for 26-year-old Carlos Ramon Velazquez, charging him with one count of murder for Harmon's death. On Wednesday, Velazquez was taken into custody without incident at his Brockton home.

On Aug. 20 at about 8:42 p.m., police in Brockton were called to the parking lot at 120 Clinton St. for a report of a man injured. Crews transported the victim, later identified as Harmon, to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Following a confrontation, Velazquez is accused of using a hammer to beat Harmon to death.

An autopsy determined Harmon died as a result of blunt force injury to the head.

Velazquez will be arraigned Thursday in Brockton District Court.
