• Brewster man charged with torching church in court

BREWSTER (AP) — A Brewster man accused of setting a fire that destroyed a local church last week is headed to court.

Adam Finnegan is scheduled to be arraigned in Orleans District Court on Monday on one count of burning a building for allegedly setting the three-alarm blaze at the Cape Cod Bible Alliance Church last Friday.

The 29-year-old Finnegan has been held over the weekend on $10,000 cash bail.

Finnegan's parents said in a statement to the Cape Cod Times (http://bit.ly/Ub4zAV ) that their son is mentally ill and the burning of the church is "heartbreaking."

The congregation, meanwhile, is vowing to carry on. About 300 people celebrated the first Sunday of Advent at a local elementary school offered by the town.
