Braintree PD to HS pranksters: "Donations to hurricane victims can pay for fines"

BRAINTREE, Mass. — In lieu of the recent Braintree High school parking lot story gaining popularity on social media, Braintree police have decided that violators can pay their fines in the form of donations to the American Red Cross.

After their Facebook post "broke the internet" with 1.5 million views and over 4,000 comments, the generous officers had the amazing idea of allowing students to pay it forward and donate to hurricane relief funds instead of paying their parking fines to the city.

On a Facebook post, they state the conditions entail proving the person has made an online donation to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief in the amount of $15, which is the cost of the ticket.

To the violating seniors, they have until next Friday to contact SRO Fahey (at House 1 or at lunch) at Braintree HS regarding their donation so their parking ticket can be voided.

Officers urge the non-violating seniors and juniors to "step up, work together as a student body, and also make a donation."

Finally, they made it clear that the parking fines were not issued because they wanted to make a profit over the prank, but rather that they wanted to "teach the kids a lesson in life":

Believe it or not, it was never about the "revenue". It was a lesson in life. We hope the lesson was learned, and feel the money is better off going to relief towards people who've lost everything in these hurricanes. If you've paid the ticket, internet fist bump for being so quick. Donate anyway, it'll make you feel good.
