Bragdon to step down as NH Sen president

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — Peter Bragdon says he is stepping down as president of the New Hampshire Senate after accepting a job as executive director of the Local Government Center.

He said Friday he realizes his new position may cause some people to question the openness and integrity of the Senate, which as president, he said he has "worked hard to nurture."

The LGC is an umbrella organization overseeing a health care trust, a workers' compensation trust, a liability and property trust and the New Hampshire Municipal Association.

Bragdon, a Republican, had said he would abstain from taking part in any legislation related to municipal and school insurance risk pools, but others questioned that.

Bragdon said he'll be checking with the Senate about their availability for a session to elect a new president.
