BPD officer accused of misleading investigation into deadly expressway shooting

BOSTON — BOSTON – A Boston police officer has been suspended without pay after being charged with witness interference and obstruction of justice.

The charges against Officer Monicka Stinson, 37, of Dorchester, were announced Friday after she was indicted by a Suffolk County Grand Jury.

“Incidents like this can erode the trust that my officers work at building each and every day in the communities we serve,” Boston Police Commissioner William Evans said in a release on the department’s website.

The charges against Stinson came from a Boston Police Department Homicide Unit investigation into a deadly double-shooting in I-93 Sept. 10.

Lance Holloman has been charged with first-degree murder for the shooting death of Scott Stevens Jr. in that incident and first-degree murder for the shooting death of Michaela Gringas several hours later.

Prosecutors allege Gringas was a passenger in the Jeep Holloman was driving at the time of the highway shooting.

According to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office, Stinson mislead investigators and lied about her contact with Holloman following the homicides.

“I hold my officers to the highest of standards and expect them to cooperate with investigations regardless of any personal connections to those involved,” Evans said.

Holloman’s sister and mother are also charged with witness intimidation and misleading investigators respectively.

“I commend the work of my Homicide Detectives and Anti-Corruption Detectives who investigated this case from the beginning. As difficult as the outcome can be, it is our duty to follow the investigation wherever it leads,” Evans said.

Holloman was arrested the day after the shootings and has been behind bars since. He has a lengthy criminal history and would have been under supervised release at the time the shootings occurred had a federal drug conviction not been tossed out as part of a massive tainted evidence case at the Massachusetts Crime Lab.
