BPD Homicide unit investigating death of 2-year-old

BOSTON (MyFoxboston.com) – Boston Police homicide detectives are investigating the death of a 2-year-old girl found in cardiac arrest near Boston Medical Center Tuesday afternoon.

Boston police and EMS responded to a parking lot at the corner of Massachusetts Avenue and Washington Street at about 4:45 p.m. and found the girl unresponsive. She was taken to Boston Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead.

Neighbors told FOX 25 the little girl lived in an apartment behind the parking lot.

"I knew her. She's a really nice little girl and it's just really sad," said neighbor Abibatu Bah.

Bah said she lived next door to the girl relatives called Babe.

"If she sees me she'd always come, hug, give me flowers. She was just always the type of little girl always giving people flowers," said Bah.

Neighbor Thomas Mabine said the little girl was playing with other children when all the others went inside, but details about what might have happened to her were sketchy.

"I guess she was the only one outside," said Mabine.

"I just heard her face turned blue and her lips were bleeding," said Bah.

Boston police said, at some point, a man who they believe to be the child's mother's boyfriend was with her.

The district attorney's office has released little information in the case. A medical examiner is conducting an autopsy to determine the child's cause of death.
