Stray bullet still in teen's shoulder after release from hospital

CHELSEA, Mass. — A boy hit by a stray bullet in his bedroom in Chelsea was released from the hospital Wednesday.

Juan Lopez Delgado, 13, was lying in his bed on the third floor of an apartment building Wednesday night when the bullet hit his shoulder. He's the third child in three weeks in Massachusetts to be shot.

“I fell down to the floor, I never felt that way. It took me like five seconds to get up then I ran to my mom’s room and I fainted right in front of the room,” he said.

Christian Garcia, 19 was arrested Wednesday evening in Andover, accused of firing the shots that hit Juan.

The arrest is a relief to Juan's family, but not enough for them to stay in the home.

“It’s not even safe to be in your house in Chelsea," he said.

The bullet is still in Juan's shoulder while he recovers at home. Doctors say it will be a few weeks until the swelling goes down enough to remove it.

“He’s in severe pain. Two types of medicine. He’s a little bit numb and he says he’s not able to move his arm,” a family member told FOX25 through an interpreter.

Juan and his nephew say the bullets came from the playground, just feet from their home.

“A kid could have caught a bullet too, that’s no place to be shooting around and all that," Juan said.

Last Saturday, a 2-year-old was shot in Roxbury, when a bullet meant for her father hit her instead. A week earlier, a Roxbury child was shot at 1 a.m. near a playground. All are expected to be okay.
