Boston youth baseball coach accused of raping player

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A former youth baseball coach from Roslindale who was previously convicted of child enticement is now accused of raping one of his players.

Jose "Brujo" Ortega, 42,  was arraigned Dec. 11 on charges that include aggravated rape of a child, indecent assault and battery on a child, and indecent assault and battery. He was ordered held on $250,000 bail after his court appearance.

Investigators allege Ortega preyed on the victim while he was the manager of the Boston Broncos youth baseball league. The alleged assaults began in 2003 when the boy was 12 or 13 years old. They accuse Ortega of assaulting the victim again when he was in his late teens.

Ortega reportedly coerced the teen into the acts by refusing to allow him to play. Authorities claim he placed him in games and praised his performance if he complied.

The allegations of rape surfaced after Ortega was charged with three counts of enticement of a child amid accusations made by another young player in 2012. The 42-year-old was accused of sending the player sexualized messages on Facebook and having other inappropriate interactions with him. In that case, Ortega was sentenced to 18 months in a house of correction followed by three years of probation.
