Boston prepares for possible blizzard

BOSTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) Boston is readying their crews for a storm that is expected to dump nearly two feet of snow on the city.

Mayor Tom Menino released a statement on Wednesday night urging commuters to stay up to date on the storm that is expected to hit southern New England Friday morning into Saturday afternoon. The mayor says that if the current storm projections hold up, the priority will be to give crews room to plow by keeping cars off the road.

"Safety is our number one priority, and my Snow Team will continue to monitor the situation so that Boston is ready for whatever comes our way," says the mayor.

The mayor's office says emergency personnel have already arranged for additional staffing during the storm. Police officers will also be stationed at major intersections.

Residents with weather-related questions can contact the mayor's 24-hour hotline. Downed trees and power lines can also be reported to the hotline at 617-635-4500.
