Boston police search for man who followed children

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Police are searching for a suspicious man they say followed two school-aged children Monday afternoon.

The incidents happened around Blue Hill Avenue and Stratton Street and Blue Hill and Talbot avenues Monday, between 4 and 5 p.m.

The first incident was reported to police just after 4:20 p.m. A young boy was walking through Franklin Field from his school when he noticed a black man in his thirties following him. He described the man as in his thirties, approximately 5-foot-8, with dark skin and large lips, wearing a black jacket, black pants and red rag hanging from his back left pocket.

The boy then said that at one point, the man attempted to grab him from behind, but he was able to run away while yelling at the suspect to get away.

Then, just before 5 p.m., a girl reported that she was walking down Westview Street from Las Americas Variety Store, when she noticed a man following her. She described him as black, wearing a navy blue hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, and black shoes. When the girl got scared and started to run, the man chased after her until she reached Ames Way.

Though officers searched the area for the man, they did not find him. Boston Police officers and the School Police Unit will put extra patrols in the area and has encouraged parents to report if children have contact with suspicious people.
