Boston police make arrest in first killing of 2013

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – Boston police have made arrest in the city's first stabbing death of the year.

A male, identified by friends as Tony Spaulding, 21, of Harwich, was stabbed on Pratt Street in Allston at about 2:43 a.m. He was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, where he later died.

Police said they had arrested 24-year-old Brian MacDonald, of Allston, in Spaulding's death. He will be arraigned Wednesday in Brighton District Court.

Spaulding was a student at the New England Institute of Art. His Facebook page listed his major as Audio Engineering.

Another person was stabbed around 1:05 a.m. on Boylston Street, not far from McGreevy's bar, in Boston. Police say the victim, whose name was not released, suffered multiple life-threatening stab wounds.

Boston police say the number of homicide cases is down. According to The Boston Globe, Boston had 58 homicides for the year by Monday evening, which compares with 62 in 2011 and 74 in 2010.
