Police: 2 people stabbed near Boston Common

BOSTON — The Boston Police Department is investigating after two men were stabbed on the Boston Common near Tremont Street.

Boston Police Commissioner William Evans says they received a radio call Wednesday for a person stabbed at Tremont and Park Streets.

Officers found one victim with a stab wound to the back. Officers then found a second victim by the ranger station with a stab wound to the stomach. He was taken to Tufts in critical condition.

“I saw him sitting there the kid and he had something on his back and there was blood pouring out of his back,” Nellie Shipshak told Boston 25 News after paramedics arrived and treated the victim with the back wound.

Evans says several suspects ran down into the Red Line T Station, officers followed them and had the trains stopped. The three suspects were taken into custody. One is being charged with assault with intent to murder and the other two are still being questioned.

Police say it appears two groups were fighting on the Common when the stabbing happened. Those involved are believed to be in their early 20s.

Commissioner Evans says they have good video and witnesses from the scene. Police do not yet know a motive and say they are actively investigating.

“The common is a safe place. I don’t want people to be afraid to come down here this is unusual," he said.
