Boston mayor backs US Senate hopeful Warren in ad

BOSTON (AP) - Democratic U.S. Senate hopeful Elizabeth Warren has released a new television ad featuring Boston Mayor Thomas Menino.

In the 30-second spot, Menino explains his decision to endorse the fellow Democrat in her bid to oust incumbent Republican Sen. Scott Brown.

In the ad Menino describes himself a "guy from Hyde Park and mayor of Boston." He calls Warren "good people" and says she's the best candidate to help build Boston, support young families and work to expand jobs and education.

The ad is key as Warren tries to hold onto as many Democrats as possible while reaching out to independent voters.

Brown has also reached out to Democrats and independents while downplaying his Republican roots.

One Brown ad featured the endorsement of Menino's predecessor, former Democratic Boston Mayor Ray Flynn.
