• Boston Marathon says who made it into 2014 race

BOSTON (AP) - The Boston Athletic Association has notified those who were accepted into the 2014 Boston Marathon that they made it in.

It will be the first Boston Marathon after the April 15 bombings that killed three people and injured hundreds more. The field for next year's race was expanded by more than 9,000 runners to accommodate those who wanted to run as a tribute to the victims.
More than 25,000 applications were received. Those who ran more than 98 seconds faster than their qualifying time got in. Another 5,625 were accepted because they were still on the course last year when the race was stopped because of the explosions at the finish line.
    Emails went out starting Wednesday.
The 118th edition of the race will be April 21.
