Boston man charged in death of bicyclist

BOSTON (AP) - A Boston man has pleaded not guilty to charges in connection with a bicyclist's death last week.

The Suffolk district attorney's office said 47-year-old Michael Ahern was arraigned Monday in Dorchester District Court on charges of motor vehicle homicide while operating under the influence of alcohol, operating to endanger, and speeding. His bail was set at $25,000.

Authorities say Ahern was driving a pickup truck on Morrissey Boulevard south at about 12:30 a.m. last Friday when he struck 63-year-old Doan Bui riding his bike. Bui was thrown from his bicycle and was declared dead at the scene.

Ahern called 911 for assistance and stayed at the scene.

The Boston Globe reports that Ahern's lawyer said in court that the case against his client is "relatively weak."
