Boston man at odds with condo association over American flag

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – A Boston man is at odds with the Fort Point condo board over his decision to hang an American flag in his window instead of complying with the building's white-curtains-only rule.

According to the Boston Herald, 52-year-old Mark DiGiovanni decided to hang the flag to honor his five World War II veteran uncles and a close cousin who served in the Marine Corps.

DiGiovanni told the newspaper he petitioned the building's board of trustees asking for an exception to the window treatment rule; however, his request was denied the very same day. He must take down the flag by Monday or face a fine.

Many trustees on the board declined to comment or didn't return the Herald's calls while one member said they were responding to a resident's complaint about the flag. The building's property manager said the board did the right thing by sticking to the bylaws because if you make an exception for one, others may follow suit.

DiGiovanni plans to keep flying the flag and told the newspaper, "We'll see what happens Monday."
