BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A 28-year-old man is in police custody for his alleged involvement in two assaults in Boston.
Investigators have charged Edwin Alemany, of Boston, with assault with intent to murder in the overnight attack on a woman in the area of the 50 block on Gates Street in South Boston.
Police responded to the area at about 12 a.m. Wednesday on reports of a woman being stabbed. Once on the scene, they spoke to a woman who said she was stabbed as she entered an apartment building. She said the man followed her before she was attacked. The woman was able to break free and escape from the man, who fled toward Dorchester Street.
The woman described her attacker as a white or hispanic man, about 5'9" inches tall, between 20 and 30 years of age. At the time of the attack, he was wearing a Red Sox hat, dark t-shirt with writing on it, and dark shorts.
Hours after speaking to the victim, police arrested Alemany, who they say matches the description of the suspect.
Police say they have not connected the murder of 24-year-old Amy Lord to the this attack or another assault that Alemany is accused of committing. They note, however, Alemany could be investigated in the death as the probe continues.
Amy Lord was found dead in a wooded area in Hyde Park Tuesday night. Investigators believe she was kidnapped while going to the gym and driven to three ATMs before she was killed. No one is in custody in her death. Police have asked Boston residents to remain alert and report any information they may have to 617-343-4470.
