Boston Globe to print Herald's entire press run

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- The Boston Globe and the Boston Herald announced Wednesday that they have reached a new 10-year agreement that will allow the Globe to print the entire press run of the Herald.

The new agreement between the two competitors is expected to begin on or about July 1, 2013.

"This agreement represents an important component for the future of our business," said Richard E. Masotta, Globe vice president of operations. "This allows the two major publications in Boston to coordinate in order to better meet the structural challenges of our industry."

Boston Herald Publisher Patrick Purcell said, "The newspaper industry, as well as other traditional media companies, has undergone a radical transformation in recent years. In the face of that change, it has never been more important for newspapers to implement ways in which they can be more efficient."

According to a release, the Globe prints and delivers about one-third of the Herald's print circulation under a previous agreement. Since 2012, The Globe began printing and delivering The Herald's city edition Sunday through Friday, as well as the newspaper's full press run on Saturdays.

In February, The New York Times Co. announced its plans to sell the New England Media Group which includes the Boston Globe, BostonGlobe.com, Boston.com, Worcester Telegram and Gazette, Telegram.com, and marketing company GlobeDirect.
