Boston city employee suspended over racist Facebook comments

BOSTON — A Boston city employee was suspended without pay after comments made on Facebook, according to a statement from the Boston Water and Sewer Commission.

The employee made comments in a private Facebook group, which a spokesperson said the commission “does not condone.”

According to a purported screenshot of the comments sent to FOX25, the employee made a racist joke.

“We have spoken with the employee; he expresses his sincerest apologies,” spokesperson Nicole Keiser said. “The commission has suspended the employee without pay, pending the outcome of an investigation.”

Kieser said BWSC has launched an investigation and the commission is “committed to embracing diversity and inclusion.”

Family members said the man's Facebook account was hacked.

“It’s all blown out of proportion from what I know. Cause I know he’s not like that," his uncle told FOX25.

The man's aunt called FOX25 to say he's a single father with two children, and his wife recently died. The aunt said it's unconscionable that he was suspended without pay and she reiterated that his account was hacked.
