Bombing victim encouraged by family as hospital stay continues

BOSTON (AP) - Marc Fucarile lost his right leg in the Boston Marathon bombing, and doctors are still fighting to save his shattered left leg.

The 34-year-old from Stoneham is the last victim of last month's attack still at Massachusetts General Hospital and among a few of the most seriously injured who haven't been released from other hospitals or moved to rehab facilities.

Fucarile tells The Associated Press that his family, including his 5-year-old son and his fiancee, has kept him going.

He was at the marathon cheering on a friend when the second bomb went off. Two other friends also lost a leg.

Fucarile credits his survival to a firefighter who immediately came to his aid and a police officer who drove him to the hospital when no ambulances were available.
