Body found on Rhode Island shore

JAMESTOWN, R.I. (AP) — Authorities are trying to identify a woman's body that was found off Jamestown's western shore.

Police say a resident found the body Sunday morning while walking about a mile south of the Jamestown Bridge. The corpse was in shallow water a few feet from the shore.

Officials say the dead person was a white woman who appeared to be 30 to 40 years old. The state medical examiner's office will be performing autopsy to try to determine her identity and how she died.

The Coast Guard helped Jamestown police and firefighters with the investigation.

Anyone with information about the woman is urged to call Jamestown police.
