Black ice could make Thursday morning commute treacherous

The storm tonight will push offshore and south of our area through Thursday morning. The northern edge will graze southern New England with some light snow.

Snow will spread over southeastern Massachusetts around midnight, though much of the snow is having a hard time making it to the ground in relatively dry air. That drying will slow accumulations so I only expect a coating on the South Shore. This storm has enough moisture to produce a few inches along the south coast, as well as Cape Cod and the islands. I wouldn't be surprised to see an isolated 3-inch report, particularly if it stays all snow on Nantucket. Snow will wrap up early Thursday morning (6 a.m. -7 a.m.) with increasing sunshine throughout the day.

The light snow may lead to slick travel overnight and Thursday morning, but also watch out for black ice. The melting snow from the day will refreeze and create slippery conditions on untreated surfaces. Take it easy!

Thursday will shape up nicely with increasing sunshine and highs in the low 40s.
