Bitterly cold temps and whipping winds come after storm

WIND CHILL ADVISORY issued for much of southern New England except the Cape & Islands until 9 a.m. Saturday.

Sustained winds 15-20 mph with gusts to 35 will result in wind chills -15 to -25. Winds will die down overnight, but temperatures will fall below 0, so any slight wind will create dangerous wind chill values.

The greatest snow reports came from the North Shore, over 2 feet in a few spots! Most inland towns and cities reported 6"-12" accumulation and coastal spots 10"-18" around Boston and on the Cape. (Click here for a list of snowfall reports from the National Weather Service.) The total at Logan of 15.1" makes this the 5th biggest January snowfall on record!

It will be dangerously cold as cleanup efforts continue. Wind chills as low as -25 were reported this morning. Frostbite can develop in 30 minutes with wind chills -20. Be sure to keep your skin covered to avoid over exposure.

We'll flirt with record lows tonight. The Saturday morning record in Boston is -4… That is the current forecasted low!

Milder air is on the way Sunday and Monday with rain to fall on top of the new snowpack. So, clean it up as best you can before the rain. Make sure your vents on the house are clear of drifted snow. Have a great weekend!
