Billerica man pleads not guilty to thefts

LOWELL, Mass. (AP) - A Billerica man has pleaded not guilty to a string of robberies, including the theft of tens of thousands of dollars' worth of jewelry from a Kmart store.

David Marston was ordered held on $25,000 bail at his arraignment Wednesday.

Prosecutors say the 44-year-old Marston broke into the Kmart, a florist, a restaurant, a hair salon and an auto repair shop earlier this month, stealing cash and merchandise. He took $62,000 worth of jewelry from the Kmart.

Marston was arrested earlier this week after police released surveillance video of two of the break-ins. They said in court that it was Marston's own mother who called police to identify her son.

The Sun of Lowell (http://bit.ly/ZW8eG7 ) reports that Marston's lawyer says her client is a drug addict.
