BOSTON (AP)- Former President Bill Clinton is hitting the campaign trail on behalf of Democratic U.S. Senate hopeful Edward Markey.
Markey's campaign confirmed Wednesday that Clinton will attend a rally for the fellow Democrat in Worcester on Saturday.
Markey is facing Republican rival Gabriel Gomez in the state's special election to fill the Senate seat left vacant by the resignation of John Kerry.
Clinton remains a popular figure in the Democratic Party.
Clinton is among a list of high-profile Democrats who are lending their support to Markey in the final weeks before voters go to the polls.
On Wednesday President Barack Obama stumped for the candidate at a rally in the Roxbury neighborhood of Boston, telling supporters he needs Markey in the Senate.
The election is June 25.
