Walsh hints East Boston is city's choice for Amazon headquarters bid

BOSTON — Thursday is the critical deadline for cities to submit their proposals to become the home of Amazon’s second headquarters, and it seems Boston is putting its efforts into the site at Suffolk Downs.

Boston Mayor Marty Walsh essentially admitted Suffolk Downs is the preferred site for the city’s bid to the retail giant.

Walsh was on the radio with WBUR when he reportedly said Boston’s focus is on one site in particular in East Boston.

Suffolk Downs has 116 acres ready to be developed. There are two Blue Line MBTA stops nearby, Logan Airport and of course all greater Boston has to offer.

The developer who owns Suffolk Downs is reportedly on board with the proposal.

Amazon said it was looking for about 100 acres to invest roughly $5 billion to build a campus that would bring up to 50,000 new high-paying jobs.

Cities across the country are submitting bids to Amazon with the hopes of luring the company to their community.

Boston isn't officially offering tax incentives until and unless the city is chosen as a finalist.
Walsh will publicly release the proposal after it's officially submitted Thursday.
