Police search for domestic violence suspect near Beverly Hospital

BEVERLY, Mass. – For several hours Wednesday night, police in Beverly searched in neighborhoods for a man they say is responsible for a domestic incident over the weekend.

Around 6 p.m., the Beverly Hospital was put into a precautionary lockdown due to police action on nearby Hilltop Drive. That lockdown was lifted just before 7:30 p.m.

“I just see the police with big guns run into the house,” neighborhood resident Carmen Concepcion said. “Police say everybody inside your house I run inside with my kids because I know he’s very dangerous.”

The suspect was identified as Charles Dixon, who is accused of threatening to kill his pregnant ex-girlfriend.

“I saw the guy take off the t shirt and run,” Concepcion told Boston 25 News.

Officers went door-to-door with K-9 units trailing closely behind.

“There’s kids there, it’s scary, everybody has to be locked in,” neighbor Melissa Sweeney said.

Less than a mile away, Blueberry Hill Nursing Home was also placed in a temporary and precautionary lockdown as police searched for any trace of Dixon.

Court records show Dixon has 43 adult arraignments.

Police say Dixon has been described to them as an armed fentanyl and heroin dealer. According to investigators, he is also a suspect in the death of another former girlfriend in Boston.

Boston 25 News is still working to learn more information about that previous case.

Dixon is a resident of Reading. Police believe he could be driving a rental car under his current girlfriend’s name.
