Ben Laguer set to ask Gov. Patrick for clemency

(FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – The convicted rapist who became a campaign issue for Gov. Deval Patrick back in 2006 is planning to ask the governor for clemency for a second time.

Ben Laguer is serving a life sentence for the rape of a 59-year-old woman.

In the 2006 gubernatorial election, Governor Patrick's opponent portrayed him as soft on crime because Patrick had written a letter on behalf of Laguer years earlier.

When DNA tests appeared to link Laguer to the crime, Governor Patrick said he would not support his parole as governor.

Laguer's attorney says he plans to file for clemency by the end of this week.
