Bellingham Principal targeted by bomb asks community not to spread rumors

BLACKSTONE, Mass. — The principal of Bellingham High School was back in the building Monday after an apparent pipe bomb damaged his car Thursday evening.

Lucas Giguere, the principal, lives in Blackstone, where police say a pipe bomb targeting a specific person was placed near Giguere’s car. Neighbors told us the principal lived at the home Friday, where the former Marine said his home shook when the explosion went off.

“I consider myself to be very private by nature and am typically not comfortable with such public attention,” Giguere said in a statement Monday morning. “However, I truly appreciate your positive thoughts and kind words through the last four days.”

Security was increased at the school Friday morning, though police said there was no danger to the community after the explosion.

“As a Marine, I’m hard-wired to adapt and overcome situations by taking actionable steps,” Giguere said. “As the principal of Bellingham High School, I am committed to the students, staff and families of Bellingham.”

Friday, students told Boston 25 News the day seemed normal, but said rumors were swirling in the school community.

“On a final note, the media has been sharing a lot of information regarding this incident. It is important that we all refrain from making conjectures or contributing to the spread of assumptions or rumors. I ask that we continue to show all those paying close attention to this incident that we are a respectful and tight-knit community that is focused on the positive things happening every day,” said Giguere.
