Bay State buried under red ink from snow removal

FOX UNDERCOVER - The Blizzard of 2013 buried the Bay State under an avalanche of red ink, helping push the state's snow removal spending $20 million over budget, according to figures obtained by FOX Undercover.

The two feet of snow dumped by the blizzard cost the state $21.3 million to clean up, according to the state Department of Transportation. That one storm ate up nearly half of the $45.4 million budgeted for snow and ice cleanup for the entire season.

For all 18 storms so far this season, the state has spent $65 million -- $20 million over budget -- with more snow forecast for the weekend.

The state pays a $1 million for every inch of snow, according to state Secretary of Transportation Richard A. Davey.
