• Barnstable man one of missing Maine students

KENNEBUNKPORT, Maine (AP) — Officials on Sunday continued searching for two young men who attended a Maine boat-building school and disappeared without a clue after a small party at one of their houses.

Police said 21-year-old Zachary Wells of Burlington, Vt., and 23-year-old Prescott Wright of Barnstable, Mass., were last seen drinking beer with a small group of friends at Wells' 5 Mills Road residence.

Wells and Wright are students at The Landing School, a boat-building and yacht design school in Arundel.

Witnesses told police the men were intoxicated, Police Chief Craig Sanford said. They weren't in the home when another resident went downstairs to turn off a radio at 4 a.m. Thursday, and they didn't show up for classes Thursday or Friday.

Police said the men were last seen around midnight on Dec. 20.

Nothing indicates foul play, Sanford said, and searches of ocean waters, roadsides and marshy areas have failed to turn up any clues.

On Sunday, the search continued with a Warden Service airplane searching from the air and the Maine Marine Patrol and members of Well's and Wright's families searching on the ground, Sanford said.

"There's no one area to pinpoint because we don't know where they might have gone," he said.

The chief said the disappearance is one of the strangest cases he's seen.

Wells is approximately 5'8" tall with black hair and hazel eyes. He weighs approximately 150 pounds and has a surgical scar on his neck.

Prescott is approximately 6'4" tall and has brown hair and blue eyes. He weighs roughly 200 pounds.

The men were reported missing by The Landing School on Dec. 21.

The Coast Guard and Marine Patrol are checking the coastline.

"Because of the residence being in close proximity to the water, we felt it prudent to ask for the search of that area," stated Chief Sanford.

However, there is no evidence to support that the men went into the water.

Both men were both expected to head to their home states for the holidays, and family members are concerned.

Anyone with information regarding the men or their whereabouts is asked to contact the Kennebunkport Police Department at 207-967-2454.
