PITTSFIELD, Mass. (AP)- Local and state police are working with the Berkshire County Sheriff's Department and Tanglewood management to plan stepped-up security for major outdoor events at the Boston Symphony Orchestra's summer home and elsewhere in the county.
Tanglewood's performance season doesn't begin until June, but the site hosts the fourth annual Memorial Day Marathon on May 25 and May 26. It could draw up to 2,000 participants for its seven events.
The event is promoted as a tribute for the survivors of the Boston Marathon bombings on April 15.
The Berkshire Eagle reports that Berkshire public safety officials have convened planning sessions to complete a strategy plan, most of which will remain undisclosed.
Lenox Police Chief Stephen O'Brien said it will be impossible to check every backpack and package brought to outdoor events.
