Auburn man arraigned in case of severely abused baby

WORCESTER, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- An Auburn man accused of abusing his 11-month-old cousin was held without bail Tuesday pending further medical evaluation.

Christian McFadden, 18, is charged with causing skull and spinal fractures to the female infant. The alleged abuse was reported by a social worker and McFadden was arrested Friday by Auburn police.

According to family members, McFadden suffers from schizophrenia, PTSD, ADHD, and is mentally retarded. They deny claims that McFadden hurt his cousin and told Fox 25, "Christian is not a monster."

Family member Patrick Mongeau said "This baby was just jumping around the day before he was arrested and when they took the children originally from the home. Why is it now all of a sudden he's made to be a monster?"

A Worcester Central district court judge ordered McFadden also ordered further psychological testing due to what was described as a current lack of competency in the case, and an inability to understand conditions for bail if it had been set.

McFadden's case was continued for 20 days.
