Updated:NEWBURYPORT, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- An aspiring rapper previously named as a person of interest in the discovery of burnt remains was arraigned on new charges Wednesday.
Reggie Cummings was ordered held without bail on charges of illegal disposal of a corpse and accessory after the fact. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
FOX 25 was the first to report that Cummings was a person of interest in the November 2013 discovery of remains near Bridgewater State Hospital and Hyde Park.
Limbs and other body parts were found near the hospital, while a torched torso was found in Hyde Park. Investigators say the remains belong to 24-year-old Dennis Jackson, who shared a Salisbury condo with Cummings.
Cummings was arrested on unrelated warrants while trying to enter San Diego from Mexico days after the remains were found.
According to the Newburyport News, Essex County prosecutors requested that some documents related to the investigation be impounded. The prosecutors say the charges against Cummings are connected to the ongoing murder investigation of Dennis Jackson. They add that they believe Jackson's body was dismembered in Salisbury and that co-conspirators are still at large.
Cummings is due back in court May 22 for a probable cause hearing.
