• Agawam goat owners sue town

AGAWAM, Mass. (AP) - An Agawam couple in a long-running dispute with the town over goats they keep on their property has filed a $2 million lawsuit.

Alan and Suzanne Griffin say in the lawsuit filed last week in U.S. District Court in Springfield that the town is violating their civil rights and discriminating against them. They are asking for $2 million in damages including compensation for mental anguish and emotional problems caused by the town.
The Griffins are also asking a judge to block the town's move to enter their property and remove the goats.
A town lawyer tells The Republican he cannot comment on pending litigation.
Alan Griffin says the goats provide milk for his wife who cannot drink cow's milk because of digestive problems.
The dispute has been going on since 2006.
