CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) - Students on the MIT campus in Cambridge were temporarily told to shelter in place Sunday after a shooting close to campus.
MIT texted, emailed and tweeted an emergency alert to students and out to the public regarding an active shooter on campus.
MITAlert: Active Shooter reported on campus. Police responding. Evacuate if able or seek shelter. Lock and barricade doors. More to follow.

The alert was recalled a short time later after it was determined the shooting took place off campus.
Police say the shooting took place around 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of Portland and Main Streets. It involved people who had been at the Cambridge Carnival, which was going on nearby.
According to Cambridge Police, a Roxbury woman in her 20's was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
